Emily’s news: Book three nearly finished! And real-life book events!

Book three news

The sun’s out here in Bristol and I have just sent off my copy edits for book three - lots of reasons to celebrate!

The copy editor looks at things like grammar and spelling, consistency and fact-checking, and generally tries to help me make the book read as well as possible. I’ve been through all his notes and sent back my comments to my editor, so now the next stage is for the novel to be typeset by my publisher’s production team (ie. transformed from a Word document into something that starts to resemble the inside of a book) and then I will need to do a final proofread.

I went up to London a couple of weeks ago for a very exciting meeting with my publishers about the book, which comes out in 2023. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Events

Meanwhile, I’ve treated myself recently to some tickets to book events run by my local bookshop Max Minerva’s - the first was the author Laura Shepherd-Robinson talking about her second novel Daughters of the Night, which sounds fantastic. It was great to catch up with Laura as well as local authors Gilly Macmillan and C.L. Taylor afterwards and talk shop!

I also went to an open mic night at Waterstones in Bristol city centre and really enjoyed the range of performances there - see this Twitter thread I wrote for more information about some of my favourites. Some brilliant novels coming through in Bristol, and some really wonderful poetry, too.

I’m even going to be doing an event soon myself! I will be moderating an event at the international crime fiction convention CrimeFest, in May. The event is called BURYING SECRETS: WHO KNOWS WHAT, WHEN, AND WHY? and is at 12.30pm on Friday, May 13th. The other authors on the panel are Mason Cross, Stephen Edger, Gilly Macmillan and Russ Thomas. Come and say hi if you’re going to be there! I’m sure I will be signing my books afterwards.
